The Carpet Foundation has just introduced a new Consumer Code
of Practice exclusively for its 1100 Registered Specialist Retailers
that has just completed Stage One of the OFT’s Consumer
Codes Approval Scheme which aims to promote and safeguard consumer
interests.
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is the highest consumer champion
in the land. Through its Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS),
the OFT is keen to promote an improvement in selling practices
within a sector so protecting the consumer.
It has defined key criteria for consumer codes and this comprises
pre-contractual information, deposit protection, impartial advice
to consumers, complaints and conciliation, independent arbitration
and non-compliance monitoring.
OFT Approval for a Code is a 2 stage process – Stage One
agree the words and then, when the Code sponsor has shown that
